11/23 Game Thread - Charlotte @ Orlando

vs

I've been very busy these last 3 days (haven't we all?). I'm sorry I've been lazy about posting. As soon as this weekend passes, I'll be back.

Big game tonight vs. Orlando. It used to be Howard vs. Okafor, but right now the game has some real meaning to it.

NBA Ranks:
Charlotte (6-5)
PPG 93.5 (25th)
Opp PPG 95.5 (9th)

Orlando (10-3)
PPG 102.8 (9th)
Opp PPG 97.5 (12th)

Go Cats.

11/21 Game Thread - Washington @ Charlotte

vs.

No "Agent 0" for Washington tonight, or the next 3 months.

Gilbert Arenas will be out for 3 months after surgery on his left knee. He'd been experiencing pain and swelling in the knee and had it checked out this morning. Later during the day, he went under.

So, bad news for Washington, bad news for the NBA, but good news for us tonight.

NBA Ranks:
Charlotte (6-4)
PPG: 91.7 (26th)
Opp PPG: 93.7 (6th)

Washington (5-5)
PPG: 98.6 (16th)
Opp PPG: 98.1 (15th)

Game Wrap-Up: 6 out of 10? I'll take it.

You know what you're looking at? That’s Gerald Wallace and Ray Felton wondering what "Bobcats 2 games over .500" means.

Hey, another W over the type of squad we need to be beating every time we play them. I haven't a single complaint.

Ok, I do. We need a center. I have faith in Ryan Hollins, and I believe he should be starting. The guy needs to develop, and any minutes we can get him are crucial in the long-run. Which brings me to my next point, and it seems to be a point I've made 1,000x before...

STOP STARTING PRIMOZ BREZEC. I'm almost certain Ryan Hollins can be much more productive if you just give him Brezec's minutes. Oh, by the way, Primoz had an eye swollen shut over the weekend. He can barely scrap together 0 points and 5 rebs on 0-3 shooting with 2 working eyes, nevermind just 1.

Ray Felton had a great game with 27 points and 10 assists. That type of PG play will certainly help put you over 100 points game in and game out. Wallace (27 points, 4 rebounds, & 6 steals), J-Rich (24 & 4), and Okafor (12 & 12) all did their usual thing.

Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge was limited to 7 points and 1 rebound. Greg Oden was limited to 0 points, 0 rebounds, and a diet coke.

Charlotte Bobcats basketball is kind of exciting at the moment, no?

Slow Day...

A rather long night yesterday so I never wrote a game wrap-up.

A nice win, the Cats definitely need to take the games that we're supposed to win if we want to even sniff the playoffs. Having Othella Harrington back is nice. Actually, anyone that can possibly take minutes from Primoz Brezec is a nice addition.

The bench looked fantastic, which is obviously very nice to see.

Other than that, it's 4-6 Portland tomorrow night for the second part of our 3-game homestand.

Friday Notes

Rick Bonnell reports Othella Harrington will be ready to go Saturday night against Seattle. Obviously, this is good news. The Bobcats are giving up a FG% of 46.45% to opponents, good enough for 26th in the league. Harrington's return should help lower that number in the long-term.

Primoz Brezec apparently took an Emeka Okafor elbow to the nose during practice and was on the floor for a few minutes. I wouldn't be against Primoz taking a few games off to get that nose healed, as well as his mid-range jumper and defense. For those of you clamoring for some Brezec stats, feast your eyes on this..

07-08 AVG's through eight games:
Pts: 2.0
Rebs: 1.6
FG%: .292

Oof, hopefully Emeka knocked some "good" into him.

Charlotte takes on Seattle tomorrow night @ 7:00 pm EST.

A few notes from Rick Bonnell

Observations | Rick Bonnell

No big news. Sam Vincent is pushing for Othella Harrington to come back quickly. He also repeates what we all know; our bench sucks.

John Hollinger's 2007-2008 rankings-to-date

John Hollinger's "Hollinger Rankings" were released today for the first time this season.

Charlotte comes in @ #29.

Yes, I believe we have a poor offense right now. No, I do not believe we are better than ONLY Chicago. In fact, to rank Chicago 30th is ridiculous in itself.

Hollinger's rankings, much like the NFL's QB Rating, are hard to understand and most of the time incorrect. Where's the love for a .500 club?

Bobcats even again after loss to Hawks

A disappointing game from Emeka Okafor, poor team defense, and a fantastic shooting night from Atlanta has landed the Bobcats back at .500. The Bobcats rolled into Atlanta after crushing Miami on Tuesday night, but left with a 117-109 loss.

The Hawks shot 60% from the field thanks mostly to the hot hands of Joe Johnson (34 points, 10 assists), Marvin Williams (19 points), and impressive bench-play from Josh Childress (23 points) and rookie Al Horford (13 points, 13 Rebs).

Jason Richardson and Gerald Wallace again led Charlotte in scoring with 27 points a piece. Okafor led the team in rebounds with 8, and Jeff McInnis handed out 6 assists, which was tops for the Bobcats. Second-year man Ryan Hollins played well off of the bench; kicking in 11 points and 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. This is the type of bench play Charlotte will need all season to save wear and tear on the oft-injured Okafor.

Charlotte never found any real consistency offensively and were absolutely man-handled down low on the defensive side of the ball. Once into the second-half, Josh Childress and Joe Johnson began to light it up from outside the paint after Charlotte made defensive adjustments in the interior. Forward Josh Smith and rookie guard Acie Law IV both left the game with injuries. Neither player returned to the court.

This is Charlotte’s first loss within the Southeast division this season.

They’ll have 2 nights off before playing Kevin Durant and the Seattle Supersonics @ home on Saturday night.

Over .500 Again, thanks Dwyane.

For the fourth straight time, the Charlotte Bobcats defeated the lowly and Dwyane Wade-less Miami Heat, 91-76.

Gerald Wallace (19 points, 7 rebs), Jason Richardson (18 points, 8 rebs), and Emeka Okafor (13 points, 10 rebs, 6th double-double of the season) lead the way, scoring more than half of Charlotte’s 91 points. Ray Felton led the team in assists with 9.

I can’t say I’m surprised. This
Miami offense is the only team having more trouble than Charlotte in scoring offense. At one point, Charlotte led by as many as 30 points.

Once garbage time rolled around, the Bobcat bench proved worthless yet again, and
Miami cut the lead to 15 by the final horn. This is a team that really has no depth beyond Matt Carroll, and will desperately miss F Sean May and G-F Adam Morrison throughout the year.

On another disappointing note, Primoz Brezec just missed another 12-footer. Is it me, or did Primoz finally realize that he’s just not that great of a shooter? He’s making Emeka look like Dirk Nowitzki.

The Cats will meet the Heat again in
Miami on Nov, 27th at which point, D-Wade should be back on the court.

The 4-3(!!!) Bobcats head to
Atlanta tomorrow night to take on the 2-4 Hawks.

Be back here for the first Bobcat Ball game thread tomorrow night,
7:00pm EST.

Welcome!

Welcome to Bobcat Ball!

Well, where to start. My name is Cormac Kelly and I'm a Bobcats fan living in New England. I became a fan of this franchise when it was brought into the league in 2004.

I'll be bringing you news and opinion about a very young but very talented Charlotte Bobcats squad.

I hope this serves as a sanctuary of sorts for Bobcats fans like myself (If there's anyone else out there!). I will be posting daily with up to the hour news, game previews, game threads, and opinions.

I hope to see you all around the blog!

- C. Kelly
